Childhood:
Abraham Lincoln was born to Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln, on February 12, 1809. He had a sister named Sarah who was two years older than him. He also had a younger brother, Thomas, who unfortunately died in infancy. When he was only 9 years old, in 1818, his mother died of milk sickness. His 11 year old sister had to take care of the household, until his father married a widow from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, named Sarah “Sally” Bush Johnston, a year later. However, only 9 years later his sister died as well. Although his life had much grief, he self-educated himself, and spent the day reading and writing.
