Who was Abraham Lincoln?
"Four score and seven years ago..." Many of you may have heard of this famous line, but do you know who spoke it? Do you you know what the name of the speech was? Well, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln gave a famous speech called the Gettysburg Address, when he honored the soldiers that were killed during the Battle of Gettysburg, during the Civil War. As you may know, Abraham Lincoln was President when America was split. This was because the South wanted to keep the slaves, but the North wanted to abolish slavery. This led to a Civil War, which is when a country fights against itself. Obviously, the North won, because we don't have any slaves today. This was because of Lincoln's great leadership, and the struggles he went through to unite America as it is today.
Here are some of Lincoln's quotes
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.
Whatever you are, be a good one.
I walk slowly, but I never walk backward.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.
Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.
No man is good enough to govern another man without that other's consent.
You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.
Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally
In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years
You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
